CASE #10: You in a world of smart, interconnected and autonomous objects: are you master or passenger?

CASE #10: You in a world of smart, interconnected and autonomous objects: are you master or passenger?

INSIGHT+OUTLOOK

New Rules and Processes of coordination:
Calling it an Internet of Things puts us off guard. Interconnecting autonomies logically lead to an internet of everything: all things, data, process, and people. Expect extensive partnerings and alliances, as we see in the autonomous electric vehicle case. Coordination and standardization lead to common platforms; but who sets standards?

Enforcement and Correction:
How will legal and ethical definitions change – guaranties; compensation; liability; enforceability? Resolving conflicts: how; who; voluntary or binding compliance?

The Ethical Machine:
Who defines limits? How do we monitor edges and deal with unprecedented cases outside current legal, moral and ethical constructs? Tech titans have proven all too human so far.

CHALLENGE:
We are still challenged to imbue AI with contextual understanding; are we ready to entrust the world to increasingly autonomous bots of unknown designs?

DIVERGENCE:
A starting point: keeping aware that nothing we do is without environmental, social and governance implications.
