Case #01: Samsung SmartTV

CES 2021
Samsung: “using AI and human-factors design to make the TV the voice-interactive. intuitive command center for managing everything from access to a world of content beyond streaming, to controlling all connected home devices

INSIGHTS+OUTLOOK:
Is this something entirely new, or a progression?
Surely there’s a more meaningful challenge?
How about this:

CHALLENGE:
Can we eliminate the need for any interface between human intent and device action?

DIVERGENCE:
How does our concept of machine control change, if we eliminate the word “interface” from design challenges? Imagine the convenience of controlling home devices with our eyes or facial expressions.

But every solution creates other problems: What about issues of privacy as AI captures and interprets your attention and intent?

And as different devices’ controls overlap and mesh, whose operating system or protocol will dominate the industry – and do we trust anyone to dominate?
